I am a busy little bee today! So, if you are looking for the Eleventh Day of DCWV, please click HERE!

But, if you have come here for a little Hampton Art inspiration, look no further.  I am super excited to bring you a sneak of this post because I’ve done something a little different this time.  I wanted to give you some inspiration and encouragement to get you through this last day of holiday crafting.

CardTrio2

This is one of three unique cards I’ve made that coordinated and could be used as a set, but that are not exactly the same.

Head over to the Hampton Art Blog, see the full reveal and scroll all the way down to the bottom to read some tips I’ve listed about keeping your holiday crafting simple, streamline, and still interesting!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Your comments mean so much.

Have a happy holidays, a merry Christmas, and a wonderful new year!

Keep it royal!

On the 11th Day of Christmas with DCWV…

Eleven Pipers Piping!

elevenpipers

Good day and welcome to day eleven of the 12 Days of DCWV! That jolly elf is on his way soon and I almost can’t wait for him to arrive!  But, for now I will have to bide my time and be a patient girl.

The project I am sharing with you today was a much bigger undertaking than I thought it would be, but I am SO pleased with how it turned out!  It is a mantle luminarie.  Each panel has a die cut sandwiched between two sheets of tissue and when you put flameless candles behind them they have a beautiful glow.

 pipers8

These photos were taken in a lower light so you could see how pretty the soft glow is.

Pipers3

I actually don’t have a mantle but this is intended to sit above the fireplace.

Here are some close-ups:

Pipers5pipers6

There are eleven panels, one to represent each piper.

Pipers2

It came out just as I pictured it! I hope this has inspired you on this wonderful Christmas Eve.

Thanks for stopping by and remember, it is so GOOD to be queen!

December WEEKLY–A December Album for the commitment challenged! (DCWV)

Good morning and happy weekend!

DecemberWeeklyPinterest

So, let’s get right to it.  Every year I get caught up in the December Daily buzz that happens in November.  The different Christmas collections fresh from the store, the youtube videos, the blog hops – I love it all.  What I don’t love is the obligation I KNOW I would feel if I spent all that time on an album that was meant to chronicle each and every day of December until Christmas.  I don’t have children and my dogs will only put up with my shenanigans for so long.  I just don’t have the inclination or variety in my life to take pictures like that.  But, I’m a scrapbooker and I DO take more than the average number of pictures in December.  So, I decided to go ahead and make a December album that I could have a hope of actually completing.  And thus, my December WEEKLY was born.

DecemberWeekly

In this album I do something I almost NEVER do in any of my other scrapbooking: I used my own handwriting in all my titles.  I do journal in my own handwriting, but I hardly ever use it for big, visible things like the title.  (Confession: I had to write this about a million times before I got one I was happy with!).

DecemberWeekly1

Though I love the whimsical images and trendy fonts in The Crafty Christmas Stack I thought it needed something non-stack related to give it a little pop. So, I added this 1” red satin ribbon from Michael’s.

DecemberWeekly2

This stack has lots of gloss and shine! Also that unexpected soft blue throughout gives it a little modern spin!

DecemberWeekly3

As you can see, there are hidden pockets in some of the pages because I used envelopes to build my album (They are A2 envelopes).

DecemberWeekly4

I love how kraft paper takes distress ink. I used vintage photo distress ink throughout the book and I think it makes each page so warm.

DecemberWeekly5

There are so many fun tags in The Crafty Christmas Stack that I could have made this book two times over! The coordinated tags really allowed me to put the book together quickly.

DecemberWeekly6

I ADORE all the mixed fonts in this stack! I think the page with the large “A Very Merry Christmas” on it is my favorite.

DecemberWeekly7

This page also houses a pocket that I plan on using to tuck a little accordion book with all the Christmas day and Christmas ever photos.

DecemberWeekly8

This large holly leaf on this paper is so pretty – I used it for the back page of my album!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve already started to fill my book with photos and it is looking great! I’m very happy that I’ve been able to participate in one of my favorite paper crafting traditions without the guilt, pressure, and obligation of a DAILY December album.  I SO understand why people love December Daily, and now I can take part in all the excitement!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Check out the DCWV diary for more inspiration throughout December!

Hampton Art and DCWV Holiday Hop Day 2–Modern!

Hello and welcome to day two of the two-day DCWV/Hampton art Holiday Hop!

DCWV and Hampton Art are two companies that go above and beyond to provide a wide selection of products from classic, to vintage, to trendy and modern. So, when we decided to team up it was only natural that we would want to show you some variety.

Day #2 of our hop is all about Modern! If you love trendy, cute and clean, or bold, saturated and artsy these ladies have created some beautiful projects to inspire you!

If you have come here from Emily’s Blog then you're on track! If not, you should go back to the DCWV blog  and start the hop from there!

-------------------------------------------------------------

Now, today I have for you, two modern cards made with the Hampton Art “Dreams and Wishes” stamp set, Clearsnap Metallic Colorbox Que and Cranberry ink and the DCWV “Heirloom Christmas” stack!

HamptonHop3

On the first card I used several sentiments and small images from “Dreams and Wishes” to create a holiday subway art panel.  Subway art is not only very popular and trendy, it is also SUPER easy to create using a clear stamp set!

HamptonHop1

On the second card I used a big, bold flower cut from a sheet of “Heirloom Christmas” cardstock and three large notch-end banners.  The flower draws your eye and the banners create movement from the large image over to the sentiment on the right side.

HamptonHop2

To me, the word “Modern” means hip, trendy, and bold.  I chose to feature subway art, notch-end banners, and chevron print – some of the most trendy ideas right now. But, new ideas will become popular and those ideas will change the way crafters and designers think of the word.  I love that element of modern design – it’s ever-changing.

---------------------------------------------------

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little corner of the hop! Now, to the part you’ve been waiting for – the PRIZES!!!  We have a total of FIVE prizes up for grabs because these companies are SO AWESOME!

Hampton Art is giving away two prize packs.  Today’s pack includes the stamp set I used, “Dreams and Wishes” and a selection of Clearsnap ink! (Visit Day 1 of the hop to see the other prize pack!)

modernprizeHampton

DCWV will be giving away a goodie box of holiday papers to three lucky hoppers!

The more blogs you visit and comment on , the more chances you have to win – so keep hopping!!!

----------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for hopping along with us today!  Next you should be on your way to Thomisia’s Blog for more holiday inspiration!!!

Keep it royal people!

Hampton Art and Cheery Lynn Designs

Welcome to Hampton Art & Cheery Lynn Designs Holiday Blog Hop Week! We are so excited to be swapping product with such an awesome company!
This hop has a holiday theme and we’ve chosen some of our best products to be showcased by some fantastic designers to give you a bundle of inspiration all week long. We are celebrating the holidays and I’ve made a set of vintage gift tags for you today!

I used The Cheery Lynn Designs dies: Holly Lace Flourish, Holly Leaves, and Cuties 4.

I used the Hampton Art stamps:  Santa’s List, Nutcracker Sweet 1, Elegant Merry Christmas, Believe in Christmas, and Holiday Dreams and Wishes (See the Catalogue: HERE).

I used Clearsnap Dye Ink: Wicked Black, Golf Course, and Fireberry.

CheeryLynn3

I love the way these dies are so intricate.  This holly flourish die is SO beautiful!

CheeryLynn2

I was really pleased with how clean this Santa stamp came out.  He’s very intricate and I think he looks just wonderful! I did age the tags with distress ink and the Clearsnap dye ink really held up well to all the blending. I think this will be my go-to ink to use with distress ink.  I used the holly leaf die to make the PERFECT poinsettia – I could have made this flower over and over it was so easy!

CheeryLynn

Tips for Ten Minute Tags! (Party Time Tuesdays #97–Tags)

tagheader

Hello pink paper people!  I’m here with another Party Time Tuesdays! challenge.  AND I wanted to give you some tips on how to speed up the process of making gift tags that look impressive, but take you almost no time at all!

The Challenge:

Tags

The Inspiration:

tags

The Tips:

#1: Decide on all your supplies before you start.

- When you are crafting for the holidays, time is usually not your friend.  The key to making the most of the time you have to craft for the holidays is to make the whole process more streamline.  When you narrow the options for paper, stamps, and tools you eliminate the time it takes for you to make each individual decision.

For example: If you are making twelve tags, choose a group of six papers, three wood mounted stamps, one tool and one clear stamp set.  Do not deviate from these supplies when you begin making your tags.

#2: Restrict yourself to only a few colors.

-It is easy to get caught up in all the amazing colors and patterns available for holiday crafting.  You might want to make every tag different in theme, color, and design and that’s awesome! But, you’ll find that the time you spend on that might be more than you bargained for.  So, look briefly through your supplies and ask yourself – “Self, what product do you LOVE the most this year?”  When you have answered that question, choose a few colors (try for one neutral and no more than three other colors – one base color, like white, cream, and kraft you get for free!)  and mainly choose supplies that go with that color scheme.

For example: The paper I chose for these tags was kraft with traditional red and green patterns.  I decided that I would go with red (color 1) and black (neutral) for my ink and then chose a green (color 2) printed paper as my main patterned paper base.  And (you’ll notice a theme starting!) Do not deviate from these colors.

#3: Get familiar with batch tasking.

-If you’ve never heard of batch tasking before, here it is, in a nutshell: it is the opposite of multi-tasking.  Batch tasking is an old concept with a new buzz-word nick name. Basically, instead of trying to make something from start to finish, creating each little detail as you go, you group each step and completely finish before moving on to the next. The reason it works has to do with, what I like to call, “The Satisfaction Factor”.  The more you feel you’ve accomplished, the more accomplished you feel. (AND if you don’t have time to do everything in one sitting, batch tasking allows you to walk away temporarily before a project is finished and still feel like you came to a good stopping point!)

For example: When I was making my tags I batched my tasks.  First I made both tag bases, then both tags and then PUT THOSE TOOLS ASIDE. Then I stamped everything I wanted to stamp on both tags and PUT THOSE TOOLS ASIDE.  I punched both holes at the same time and finished both tags with the hemp twine and PUT THOSE TOOLS ASIDE.  I was able to speed up my productivity and keep my workspace organized without sacrificing quality in my final product. (And, as always) Do not deviate from your system no matter how tempted you might be. ; )

#4: (The most IMPORTANT tip) Don’t be afraid to throw the rules out the window.  In fact, just don’t be afraid.

-The most important thing about crafting is that it’s fun.  You create homemade things for the holidays because you love to craft and it gets you in the spirit of the season to make pretty things that celebrate your family and your life.  If these tips make that creative process torture for you – don’t do them.  These tips are not the “right” way to make quick tags – they are MY way to make quick tags that make ME happy.

(“But, BRITT, you said Do not deviate!”)

Well, yes, that is true.  But, take everything I say with a grain of salt.  When I was in college studying music and theatre, there was one idea I learned that has applied to almost every aspect of my life.  Learn the basics.  Learn the basics so well that you can say them, do them, act them, and sing them in your sleep. And only then, when you hold those basic ideas in the palm of your hand, can you begin to bend and mold them into something different.  Only then, can you become the artist that you have the potential to be.

For example: When I was done with my tags, after I had narrowed my products, chosen my colors, and batch-tasked my assembly, I had some pretty cool tags that I was really happy with.  I picked them up and started to walk out of the room toward my camera – and then I spotted it.  That brand new Studio Calico Mr. Huey white mist bottle was calling my name.  It wasn’t part of the plan.  It wasn’t even one of my original chosen colors (I’d already used my “free” choice: kraft).  But something in me, a little voice, told me ‘just do it.’ I held the mist up in front of my tag, knowing it might be a bad decision, and misted without fear.  That little voice, is the artist.  And she is fearless.

tags2

So, whatever “basics” work for you and make you happy, hold onto them, memorize them, and let them give you focus.  Then, spray the mist, be fearless, and Do not deviate.

Oh yeah, and keep it royal people. ; )
